# Delete a user

Delete a user — the person and their logins are removed from the project.

**Where:** Membership → Users → click a name → **Delete** · `/projects/<project>/membership/users/<userId>/edit`

## Before you start

* You need the `membership:delete` permission on users.
* Deleting cannot be undone. If you only want to stop the person signing in, block the login from code instead ([Block User](/codemash/api-reference/membership/users/block-user.md)).

## Steps

1. In **Users**, click the name, for example `Temp user`.
2. Press **Delete** at the top right. The dialog **Delete Confirmation** asks *Are you sure you want to delete this user?*

3. Press **Delete**.

## Result

Cloud goes back to **Users**; the person is gone from the list. A **When deleted** trigger runs, when you have one — see [Create a trigger](/codemash/cloud/membership/triggers/new.md).

## Change or remove it later

* A deleted user cannot be brought back. Add the person again — [Add a user](/codemash/cloud/membership/users/new.md).
