# Enable or disable a trigger

Turn a membership trigger off without deleting it, and on again.

**Where:** Membership → Triggers → click a trigger → **Actions** → **Disable** / **Enable** · `/projects/<project>/membership/triggers/<triggerId>/edit`

## Before you start

* The trigger exists — see [Create a trigger](/codemash/cloud/membership/triggers/new.md). A new trigger starts **enabled**.
* You need the `membership:update` permission on triggers.

## Steps

1. Open the trigger and press **Actions**. On an enabled trigger the menu has **Disable**, **Delete trigger...** and **See documentation**.

2. Press **Disable**. Cloud goes back to the list, where the trigger shows **Enabled: No**.

3. To turn it on again, open the trigger. The banner *Trigger is disabled, but you can still edit it.* is on top, and **Actions** has **Enable**. Press **Enable**.

## Result

A disabled trigger keeps all its settings but does not run: user events pass it by. You can still edit it. After **Enable** it runs again from the next event.

## Change or remove it later

* **Edit** — [Edit a trigger](/codemash/cloud/membership/triggers/edit.md).
* **Delete** — [Delete a trigger](/codemash/cloud/membership/triggers/delete.md).

## Do it from code

```ts
await norbix.hub.membership.disableMembershipTrigger({ triggerId, triggerType: 'Membership' });
await norbix.hub.membership.enableMembershipTrigger({ triggerId, triggerType: 'Membership' });
```

```sh
norbix hub membership trigger disable --triggerId trg_76FRQnqeqTbMDCwqAzCflQ --triggerType Membership --yes
```

Pass the id as `--triggerId`: a bare id after the command is read as `id` and the CLI stops with *Missing path parameter "triggerId"*. The client setup is on the [Membership page](/codemash/cloud/membership.md#use-it-from-code). API: [Disable Membership Trigger](/codemash/api-reference/membership/triggers/disable-membership-trigger.md) · [Enable Membership Trigger](/codemash/api-reference/membership/triggers/enable-membership-trigger.md)
