# Advanced

Disable the Membership module, and enable it again.

**Where:** Membership → Settings → **Advanced** · `/projects/<project>/membership/settings#advanced`

## Before you start

* Disabling keeps all Membership data (by design). The screen still says the data is deleted — that text is wrong; see the note below.
* You need the `membership:manage` permission.

## Steps

1. Open **Settings → Advanced**. The block **Advanced** has one panel, **Disable membership module**.

2. Press **Disable module**. The dialog **Disable this module?** says *Are you sure? The module and all the data that belongs to it will be deleted. This cannot be undone.*

3. Press **Disable module**.

## Result

Membership is off and Cloud opens the Membership start page, **Norbix Membership**, with **ENABLE**.

Disabling a module never deletes data — that is by design: your data is kept and comes back when you enable the module again. Data is deleted only through the **Compliance** settings (personal data of a person) or by [deleting the project](/codemash/cloud/project/settings/termination.md). The panel and the dialog still say the data *will be deleted*; that text is wrong and is being corrected. To erase one person, use their [delete](/codemash/cloud/membership/users/delete.md) action or the Compliance settings.

## Change or remove it later

* **Enable** again — press **ENABLE** on the start page; see [Membership](/codemash/cloud/membership.md#enable-the-module).
