# Settings

How sign-up, sign-in, account closing and communication preferences work for the users of your project.

**Where:** Membership → Settings · `/projects/<project>/membership/settings#<tab>`

**Membership Settings** decides how users get in, how they sign in, how they close their account and which topics they can subscribe to. The screen has five tabs; the open tab is kept in the address (`#onboarding`, `#authentication`, `#account`, `#communication`, `#advanced`). Older links such as `#registration`, `#passkey` or `#deactivation` still open the tab that holds that part now.

Most rows have a **Change** link that opens a small dialog with **Cancel** and **Submit**; switches save at once. Rows that send email need the Email module; while it is off they show *This setting needs the Email module* with **Enable Email module →**.
