# Settings

Turn the Files module off for a project, and on again.

**Where:** Files → Settings → **Disable module** · `/projects/<project>/files/settings`

## Before you start

* Disabling only switches the module off. Your integrations, their saved keys, your triggers and your files stay where they are — see the warning below.
* To really remove data, [delete the files](/codemash/cloud/files/browser/delete.md) and [delete the integration](/codemash/cloud/files/integrations/disable.md) first.

## Steps

1. Open **Files → Settings**. The page has one panel, **Disable the Files module**, with the button **Disable module**.

2. Press **Disable module**. The dialog **Disable the Files module?** asks you to confirm.

Every file integration in this project and every file stored through them will be deleted. This cannot be undone. With Disable module and Cancel"><figcaption><p>The confirmation dialog.</p></figcaption></figure>
3. Press **Disable module** in the dialog.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Disabling a module never deletes data — that is by design: your data is kept and comes back when you enable the module again. Data is deleted only through the **Compliance** settings (personal data of a person) or by [deleting the project](/codemash/cloud/project/settings/termination.md). The panel and the dialog still say the data *will be deleted*; that text is wrong and is being corrected. To remove single files or integrations, use [Delete a file](/codemash/cloud/files/browser/delete.md) and [Disable or delete an integration](/codemash/cloud/files/integrations/disable.md).
{% endhint %}

## Result

Cloud goes back to `/files`, which shows the enable page again. Your app's file calls now answer that the module is off; the Files screens are closed until someone presses **ENABLE**.

## Change or remove it later

* **Enable** — press **ENABLE** on that page (see [Files](/codemash/cloud/files.md#enable-the-module)). The integrations, the default, the triggers and the files are all back as they were.
* **Delete data** — delete files in the [Browser](/codemash/cloud/files/browser/delete.md) and integrations in [Integrations](/codemash/cloud/files/integrations/disable.md). The bytes in your own S3 bucket, Azure container or Google storage are never touched by Norbix when the module is turned off.

## Do it from code

```ts
await norbix.hub.files.disableFiles();
await norbix.hub.files.enableFiles();
```

```sh
norbix hub files disable --yes
```

The client setup is on the [Files page](/codemash/cloud/files.md#use-it-from-code). API: [Disable Files](/codemash/api-reference/files/module/disable-files.md) · [Enable Files](/codemash/api-reference/files/module/enable-files.md)
