# Save Database Schema

save Database Schema.

A **schema** defines a collection's fields, types, and validation. Schemas support drafts, versions, and publishing.

This endpoint creates the database schema and returns its id.

The schema is saved in the request's environment. With an `id`, the schema must exist in that environment, otherwise the call answers *schema not found*; to bring a schema from TEST to PROD, [promote](/codemash/cloud/project/settings/environments.md#promote-content-up-the-ladder) the environment.
